Equal partner to Balthier, Fran has a long history of sky pirating. She is proficient with a variety of weapons, yet prefers to use bows.

Fran’s hometown is Eruyt Village — a small enclave of Viera in Golmore Jungle. She left the village and cast aside the Wood 50 years ago, believing that just because her kind began with the forest, they shouldn’t be confined to it. After leaving the village, however, Viera are not permitted to return and thus, Fran also left behind her two sisters, Mjrn and Jote.

Like all Viera, Fran is highly susceptible to the Mist that permeates Ivalice, and at times is driven into a state of rage when its power becomes too strong.

Fran is Balthier’s “business partner”. Amongst other things, she handles the maintenance of their airship, the Strahl. Although her age is unknown, she belongs to the Viera, who are distinguished by (among other things) their remarkable longevity.

She first joins the party (together with Balthier) in the Garamsythe Waterway, and then again later on at The Sandsea. Fran’s attributes are fairly average, and her max HP, Strength, and Magick Power aren’t very impressive. This is why it’s important to make it a priority to acquire Licences that raise her stats and/or learn at least two Quickenings to boost her max MP. Fortuitously, she is actually within easy reach of some Quickenings on the License Board. In the later stages of her development, Fran’s MP growth accelerates; at approximately level 50, she will catch up with Vaan in that area.

A Viera female with a strong sensitivity to the Mist, Fran is a loyal partner and co-pilot to Balthier. She’s quite a formidable warrior and a mechanic to boot. Her adjustment to the greater world since abandoning the forest dwellings of her race is nearly complete. But can one ever completely forsake the voice of the Wood?

Fran’s prowess in battle is matched only by her skill with a wrench, as she also handles the maintenance of Balthier’s airship, the Strahl. Her silent, inscrutable air belies a strong inner spirit and a readiness to risk anything to protect her hard-won freedom.

In the end, along with Balthier, Fran has a close call with death while making mechanical repairs on the Sky Fortress Bahamut as it is falling/crashing toward Rabanastre below it.
